Light is part of our routine and it’s essential for our well-being. Each space has, accordingly to its activity, a specific light necessity.
To make sure your space provides the correct light following the standards for comfort and efficiency you should know precisely what’s the difference between Lumen, Candela and Lux.
Lumen (lm) Is the unit that measures the luminous flux describes the quantity of light emitted by a light source.
Candela (cd) Is the unit that measures the luminous intensity which describes the quantity of light that is radiated in a particular direction. This is a useful measurement for directive lighting elements such as reflectors. It is represented by the luminous intensity distribution curve (LDC).
Lux (lx) Is the unit that measures the Illuminance which describes the quantity of luminous flux falling on a surface. It decreases by the square of the distance (inverse square law). Relevant standards specify the required lluminance. Illuminance: E(lx) = luminous flux (lm) / area (m2)
